It's Tribal, but not as we know it.
If the summer and resort 2012 collections are anything to go by - which they are, because when they move everyone else in the fashion world follows suit - then tribal has grown up.
Tribal is a trend that comes and goes, but until recently it hasn't graduated any further than kindergarten mash-ups of colour and print.
British paper The Telegraph rightly stated that "at the recent Resort 2012 presentations in New York, tribal fashion distanced itself from festival chic and aligned itself with grown up glamour."
While ethnic print, animal prints, beads and shell embellishments still adorn the trend, the look is more refined. And while some might say more severe - I'd say the tribal trend has simply got a bit of life experience under its belt.
From Masai prints to Balinese dye work, right through to modern digitalised tribal motifs, the geographical source of inspiration varies but the mood remains the same.
Prints can be as wild as the wearer wishes, but the silhouette is refined and sleek for a grown up mood.
Embellishments are coming through on clothing, footwear and accessories, with the piece de resistance for the trend this season being the bold necklace.
How to wear it:
The simplest way to wear the 2012 tribal trend is to pick one tribal item and work it into a simple outfit.
A bold tribal necklace is a great entry level into this trend, and when worn with a casual T-shirt can look great.
Try a tribal print shoe for a subtle nod to the trend.
For the bold at heart try a mash up of prints. Pick two or three bold prints with a similar colour scheme running through and wear together.
When wearing a full print look like this keep it refined with pared back accessories.
